Solution to E-waste?? Recycle

E-waste is a major problem the entire world is facing currently. I am sure you must have thought what to do with your old phone and then just put it in your side drawer or threw away somewhere in a huge pile of waste. So, in this blog, I will give you one sure shot solution for your e-waste be it your old phone or computer, printer even a watch or calculator.  But let me give you a brief on why e-waste is such a big problem and so you will be encouraged to follow the solution. So seen in the picture this is just one pile of e-waste generated from a small Tier-2 city and that city has similar 15-20 piles and this amount is just the waste collected in one year. Too much right?? It is estimated that 50 million tonnes of e-waste was generated globally in 2018. Half of this is personal devices such as computers, screens, smartphones, tablets, and TVs, with the remainder being larger household appliances and heating and cooling equipment. Despite 66 percent of the world’s population being covered by e-waste legislation, only 20 percent of global e-waste is recycled each year, which means that 40 million tonnes of e-waste is either burned for resource recovery or illegally traded and treated in a sub-standard way. So, now you can see that the problem of E-waste is a big menace. But yes there is a solution for it.

So, the answer is recycling. The majority of parts from your phone can be recycled and used in the manufacturing of new phones or some other electronic materials. Hence, next time you want to buy a new phone and are thinking about what to do for the old one, just google 'electronic waste recycling near me' and call that company they will come to your place and take your phone, and please don't expect a lot of money for that phone, because you are doing this for the world, not for the money. And these recycling companies can't pay much because they are not earning that much for your used phone but they are doing this because they are aware of the problem and want to contribute their part in making this world a better place. And there is one more easy way, buy your new gadgets from Amazon or Flipkart because they have partnerships with recyclers and hence they take away your old phone and these recyclers use them instead of dumping it. If a properly managed recycling of all e-waste is done, this dumping grounds will be free and maybe you can play cricket there the next weekend. But its not only about space that will be free, E-waste if dumped at a place, the surrounding regions face various health hazards ranging from kidney problems to neurological disorder. When e-waste is dumped in landfills, the lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic, and PCBs make the soil toxic and unfit for agricultural purposes.

So, please make sure that you give your e-waste to proper recycling units the next time! And also, tell your friends and family to do the same.
