Cost of Development? Ending biodiversity
Today while doing my daily chores I was listening to the podcast of Kristine Tompkins’ TED talk on Spotify and I was super impressed by her. So, I decided to take the key learnings from that talk and also add my few suggestions and dedicate this blog to the amazing efforts by Kristine. Kristine is a biodiversity conservationist and also the former CEO of Patagonia. She and her husband realized how the progress of industrialization and development all together have side effects like depletion of wildlife and nature. So, they used their capitalist money into the conservation of wildlife and biodiversity. In today's blog, I am going to write about simple measures we as common people can take to save the animals and spices in our surroundings and preserve biodiversity as much as possible.
The first thing by which you can start is by proper disposal of your waste especially those nails when you cut, make sure to wrap in a paper or something else before throwing. Also, make sure plastics are not let loose so that birds will end up chewing them. Majority of birds that roam around in our community die because of choking plastic or nails. Hence, proper waste disposal is the first step.
Second is surrounding your house by as many plants as possible. In my previous blog on green roofs, I have given some suggestions on how in small houses also you can plant trees. Also, make sure you have a corner around your plants for the birds where there are some grains from them to feed upon and some water to drink or get wet. As natural habitats of birds are shrinking eventually they migrate to cities and we as responsible citizens have to make space from them. Limiting the use of pesticides and chemicals for your green zone will not only help your plants grow better but also attract various species including birds in your natural habitat.
While reading about ways to save birds I came across an amazing quote that is suitable for sustainable development and climate change. "Have fun and enjoy the
process. You won’t solve
all your community’s
problems in a day, but
your efforts will make
a meaningful impact for
years to come". I am writing this blog with the same hope that small things practiced continuously will create a larger impact in the long run!!
Your views are spectacular about the topic.!
