Mica for our cosmetics causing child labor, let's shift to alternatives!
So basically all makeup products from almost all brands have mica in them. And these mica comes from the mines of Jharkhand where kids work so they can eat. In this blog I want to urge all the people using such makeup/cosmetics please STOP using them. If the consumers stop using such products then only these brands who exploit children for their raw material will understand and start taking measures for sustainable procurement.
The mica is used in various cosmetic products and it's used for shimmer and shine. Its also used in skincare products that are used to provide radiance or glow. Major cosmetic companies like Loreal, MAC who claim that for their sustainable value chain use mica for their cosmetic and skincare products. This mica comes from mines of Jharkhand, India where small kids work to collect mica by risking their lives for the same. They start working from the age of 4 because if they don't work they don't have food to eat. The entire family works in mines and many children have lost their lives working there. To motivate big cosmetic brands to take some steps in this direction consumers should start to question these brands and stop using such cosmetics until the value chain is sustainable. If the government or big brands are lagging motivation to take any action for these kids, lets us be smart consumers and give them a reason. There are many alternatives for that shimmer including amazing organic products with natural ingredients, lets shift to them. These natural products not only help our skin breathe and show long term benefits for skin, but these products are also from companies having a sustainable supply chain and hence are environment friendly.
