Save Water! Lets push the day 0!

The water crisis in the world is increasing and as you read this, the number shown in the picture is increasing, people living in areas with water crises are increasing every second. Our water usage has increased at twice the rate at which our population is increasing. Apart from the increase in usage, climate change is increasing water to evaporate from the surface of Earth leading to an increase in draughts. Many people in the world, have to walk miles just to get water to drink and for household usage. Many cities are on the verge of getting their day 0, that is the entire city will run out of the water, and the population from that city might have to migrate elsewhere. Every one of us knows that water is important for mere sustenance of human life but what are we doing so that we preserve this water for generations to come.

I have come up with a few easy steps which we can practice and contribute our part in pushing the day 0 to infinity. These are very simple steps but they work. I myself practice them.
  • The best thing one can do is start by seeing if there are any leaks in the house and fix them.
  • Don't throw garbage like cigarette butts in toilet pot, throw them in the dustbin and let it recycle, you save that one flush of water one time, imagine how much you are going to save in an entire year.
  • While doing your dishes or brushing the teeth, please ensure that taps are closed.
  • Instead of shower use a fixed amount of water in a bucket for bath. This works while washing vehicles and also gardening the plants.
  • Instead of using excessive water to clean your stuff use a wet cloth and it will work just the same.
  • Once you are using the washing machine, ensure its fully loaded, so stock up the laundry and wash them all once. Similar thing works for dishwashers.
  • The water used for washing vegetables and while cooking can be used for watering plants instead of throwing it away in the sink. In fact, this water is more beneficial for plants and plants grow faster and healthier, trust me this works because I myself started practicing it for my house plants.
All this starts when you consciously start thinking about saving the water, then you will notice where it is being wasted and how to stop it. These small steps if practiced by everyone will help push save water and preserve our planet for the next generation. These steps are the ones which I myself practice, if you have some more ideas please comment or email me, and I will add them here. Let's do our bit in making this world a better place, start today itself!!
